Important Heather Update - 2/23/06

Dear Family and Friends,

We are back from Boston again. The good news is that Heather’s tumor is gone. She seems to be in a state of remission. The bad news is that we have a long road ahead of us. Dr. Buff and Dr. Joyce both came to see us yesterday and told us that they were very pleased with Heather’s progress, and it was time for us to know the full extent of the disease. The doctors were quite fearful for Heather when she was first diagnosed, and felt that it was not appropriate to overwhelm her with fear given her mental and physical condition at the time. As they suspected, the tumor Heather had was quite vicious. MRI scans show that in the space of six weeks, the tumor did quite a lot of damage. In addition to many pits and cracks, she has a dime-sized hole in her pelvis. They believe that all of this will heal in time. there’s more →

From Heather - 2/19/06

It’s Finn’s first Valentine’s day and I tried to stamp his hands and feet in an experiment that went horribly wrong. I had more ink on me than him, and all I got was some smudgy spots that look like hands if you really use your imagination. It was fun to try none the less, and I’m sure I’ll try again one day soon. Last night, I sat awake, bottle in one hand, Finn in the other. It was quiet and white outside the window, but the room was filled with color. Finn’s Uncle JP made him a special night light that projects the colors of the spectrum all over his room. I sat there, Finn Slurping away, as the ceiling turned red, blue, purple, green, and I felt truly bathed in love, thinking about the generosity that we have enjoyed. there’s more →

Update from Heather - 2/04/06

I’m embarrassed to have taken so long to write, but I know that any of you who have had a new born, especially a preemie, understand where I have been!

So. Finn is home. HOME. In our house, sleeping, eating, and pooping here on Middle Street in Bath, Maine. It is a joy and a dream to have him here. Dick and I were lying in bed this morning, the wee Finn between us, marveling at how far we have come in this odyssey. there’s more →
